Semana Santa (Holy Week)
Easter’s Holy Week is celebrated
during either March or April and
is highlighted by masked
processions by religious
fraternity (cofradias) members.
It is a good time to observe one
of Spain's most traditional
religious ceremonies and fiestas
amidst the setting of scenic
buildings that Toledo has in
profusion.
Corpus Christi de
Toledo is reputed to be one of the best city to observe the celebration of
Corpus Christi in Spain. This annual festival which is celebrated every
9th Thursday after Easter offers colorful parades, street performances and the
spectacular enactment of the ancient struggle between good and evil performed by
villagers.
La Asunción (Feast of the Assumption)
This feast takes place on the 15th August each year and in Toledo massive queues
of people line up to drink the ‘miracle water’ of the Cathedral’s well, then
indulge themselves in street parties.

The most
spectacular part of the village's annual nativity festival (24-27 April) is the
San Marcos pilgrimage when villagers dressed in white skirts, petticoats and red
bandanas sing and dance to the orders of the Sargentos who are dressed in
medieval costume.

Come during Easter, especially Good Friday, to see the statues of the saints
being carried through the streets accompanied by ceremonial guards.
