Shopping
Toledo produces many fine handcrafted products for which the city is famed
apart from its cornucopia of elegant old buildings. Renowned goods
include mazapán (mazipan), ceramics - available in a variety of forms
throughout the city, and damasquinado (damascene) decoration - fine detailing in
silver and gold - on various items such as lighters. Steel swords are
other well-known products to come from Toledo, and you'll find plenty of them in
different styles and shapes at the local markets here. Many souvenir shops
are located around the city's plazas and nearby major tourist attractions such
as the cathedral.
Dining
As a popular tourist city, Toledo does harbor a good number of restaurants to
cater to its visitors' appetite. Most restaurants offer a good-value
lunchtime menu with tasty local specialties. In general, there are some
eateries to be found on every main street and avenue, but the nearer to the
center the more upmarket restaurants you'll find. If you would like your
meal with international edge, there are also Chinese, Mexican, French, Italian
and American restaurants in the city.
Nightlife
The nightlife in Toledo is quite subdued until late in the week such as
Thursday night when the university students hold their parties. The city's
Historical Quarter is always a good place to start as there are numerous
bars, discotheques and pubs with different mood and music to choose
from. Located in the junction of Maestros Espaderos are also some
of the lively pubs with live music in different styles. The area around
the Plaza del Zocódover is also popular with many
nightbirds. The area that is fast becoming popular as an upcoming ground
for Toledo's nightlife, however, is the district of Santa Teresa in the Plaza
de Cuba where you can enjoy bar-crawling until dawn.
